Shaping a man
How can you not love this face? I just can’t get enough of him some days. This year is passing too quickly… and he is already starting to show signs of independence. My heart isn’t ready, but I know I must let go. Small steps here and there… I have dreams and aspirations for him, but I know that my dreams pale in comparison to what God has prepared for him to do. I am amazed God chose us to raise this special child. I am apprehensive about the role I have in this little man’s life… to help shape and mold him into a man of God, a kind and considerate male, and one who respects authority… along with so many other things. I simply pray that I make the most of every opportunity God gives me. I want to fill this little mind with the things of God, to teach him about God’s love and mercy, and to help him fall in love with the Father I love. How can I do that when I struggle so much to be who God wants me to be? I know I cannot accomplish this on my own, but simply trust God to call upon Jonathan’s heart. “I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” I Samuel 1:27-28

Because you are already so aware of God's hand over yours and Jonathans' lives, you'll just have to tell that worry to go away. And if that's really hard, let me encourage you a little. Even just knowing y'all in college, and learning with you in Bible study, I have absolutely NO DOUBT that Jonathan will learn of God's grace, forgiveness, discipline, and love from his two parents. He will see it evidenced in you, and he will learn it from how you raise him. I'm SO excited for y'all, and I'll be praying for y'all as you train up this little man! He is really just TOO cute !!!
Kaci-Shaping Jonathan into the man God wants him to be is great and mighty work. God has already gifted you with enough grace, love, and purpose to teach that little man. Think of every moment as a teachable one and you will be at the mercy of our Father. Remember to get down on his level and to touch him when you want to talk to him eye to eye or face to face...boys need that (see Bringing Up Boys by Dobson...highly recommended!) I love the pictures and love hearing from your heart. Thank you Lord for allowing Kaci and I the priveledge to raise boys and be friends through the miles! God is so incredible!
I love you!
